Exterior Light Fixtures
Setting up some exterior light fixtures in your front or back yard can give you two things: a sense of security, and a yard to be envied. That is, if you set them up in ways that give you both of these things. Exterior lighting can come in all sorts of ways. From bright flood lights to much more subtle garden lights, there are ways to give your lawn the look and feel that you are looking for.
The most standard exterior light fixtures are the lantern types that go right on the wall next to the front or back door. These are effectively attractive and they can give you a good idea of what is going on outside. You can also use them to let guests to be able to see your front door if they have never been to your house before. Because these are the standard, almost every house has some variation of it already on their front porch. However, if you like the look getting one installed for the back door is a good idea as well.
If you have a lot of walkways or an elaborately set up garden, garden lights are always an attractive type of exterior lighting to have set up. These are usually dimmer than other types of exterior light fixtures and they are usually not adjustable light-wise. They are, however, very attractive and they can give your lawn a whole new feel. There are even styles that look good during the daytime when they are not on, making them very multifunctional and stylish.
Flood lights are usually set up next to the back door and utilize motion sensor activation to give you a real feel of security in your home at night. While functional, they are usually not attractive at all and are also very bright. However, you couldn't get much better besides having a full alarm system installed.
LED lights are becoming popular for outdoor lighting. This is because they do not need to be changed very often and the light they give off is subtle and almost looks natural. LED lighting is better if you're adding outdoor fixtures for looks and not for security purposes, otherwise go with fluorescent fixtures and bulbs.
Whatever your reason for needing outdoor lighting, there are types of fixtures and bulbs to work with your needs. Finding a good medium between functional and stylish is the goal, but you may need or want one more than the other. Think carefully about which way to go and then go all out. Exterior light fixtures are always good to have, and it's hard to go wrong in choosing them.
